Property Renovations in Milton Keynes
Whole-house refurbishment and multi-room renovation, fully managed by one builder
Renovating a house is a very different job from decorating one. It means opening up walls, replacing what is behind them, and rebuilding the rooms to suit the way you actually live. Crownhill Building Services are house renovation builders in Milton Keynes who take on the whole project — structural work, rewiring, re-plumbing, plastering, new floors, kitchens, bathrooms and decoration — under one fixed-price quote and one point of contact.
We have been building in Milton Keynes since 2006 and have completed more than 500 projects across the city and the surrounding villages, from single-room refurbishments to full renovations of tired 1970s and 1980s houses. That experience matters on a renovation, where the real condition of a property only becomes clear once the strip-out starts and the plan has to adapt without the budget running away.
Renovation Projects We Take On
- Whole-house refurbishment — a complete renovation of a newly purchased or long-neglected property, taken back to the structure and rebuilt room by room
- Ground-floor remodels — knocking through to create open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, often with a new kitchen at the heart of it
- Multi-room renovations — a kitchen, one or two bathrooms and the connecting hallways done together as a single programme
- Structural alterations — removing load-bearing walls, installing steel beams, forming new openings and moving doorways
- Renovation plus extension — refurbishing the existing house at the same time as building a home extension, so the old and new parts are finished to one standard
Structural Work and Knock-Throughs
Many Milton Keynes houses were built with small, separate rooms that no longer suit modern family life. Removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room, or opening the living room into the hallway, is one of the highest-impact changes you can make. As builders, we handle the structural engineering calculations, install the steel beam (RSJ) and padstones, make the openings good and manage the Building Regulations inspections as part of the same job. The same applies to moving staircases, forming new doorways and creating an en-suite from part of a large bedroom.
Everything Included in One Package
The difference between a renovation that runs smoothly and one that drags on for months is almost always coordination. When a homeowner books each trade separately, every trade waits on the one before it. We include all of the following trades within one renovation package, sequenced and managed by us:
- Electrics — full or partial rewiring, new consumer units, lighting design, sockets and data points, all completed during the first-fix stage while walls and floors are open
- Plumbing and heating — re-plumbing hot and cold supplies, new radiators or underfloor heating, and bathroom and kitchen connections
- Plastering — re-boarding and skimming ceilings and walls throughout, so every room has a fresh, flat surface
- Joinery — new internal doors and frames, skirting and architrave, staircases, fitted storage and bespoke carpentry
- Flooring — levelling and laying new floors throughout, from engineered wood and laminate to tiles and vinyl
- Tiling — kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and utility rooms
- Kitchens and bathrooms — full kitchen installations and bathroom installations as part of the wider renovation
- Decorating — preparation and painting of every surface, inside and out where required
Because everything runs through one team, the electrician knows where the new kitchen units go, the plasterer follows straight behind the first fix, and the decorator arrives when the room is genuinely ready.
Planning a Renovation That Works
A good renovation starts with a survey of what you have. We look at the electrics, the plumbing, the roof, the windows and the structure before recommending a scope, because there is no point fitting a new kitchen on top of failing wiring or laying new floors over a damp problem. From there we agree a room-by-room specification with you, produce any drawings needed for structural changes, and give you a single fixed-price quote for the whole project. If you would like to phase the work over time to spread the cost, we will plan the sequence so that each phase leaves the house in a finished, usable state.
Renovating an Occupied Home
Not every renovation happens in an empty house. Where you are living in the property, we work floor by floor or zone by zone, keep a kitchen and bathroom usable for as long as possible, seal the working area from the living space, and clear up at the end of each day. A full whole-house renovation of a three or four bedroom home typically takes between eight and sixteen weeks depending on the scope; a ground-floor remodel or a two-room renovation is considerably shorter. We will give you a realistic programme before we start and keep you updated as the work progresses.
