What a Full Kitchen Installation Involves

A kitchen is the most service-heavy room in the house. Water, waste, electrics, ventilation and often gas all converge in one space, and the finished result depends on getting the work behind the units right before anything is fitted. Our kitchen installations typically run through the following stages:

• Strip-out — removing the old units, worktops, appliances, tiles and floor coverings, and disposing of everything responsibly
• Layout and design — agreeing the new layout, appliance positions and where every socket, light, tap and waste needs to be
• First fix — running new plumbing and electrical circuits to the agreed positions, moving radiators where needed, and preparing the walls and floor
• Plastering and preparation — skimming walls and ceilings, levelling floors and boxing in pipework so the room is ready for fitting
• Unit and worktop fitting — installing base and wall units, templating and fitting worktops, and building in appliances
• Second fix — connecting sinks, taps and appliances, fitting sockets, switches and lighting, and commissioning everything
• Tiling, flooring and decorating — splashbacks, floor tiles or other flooring, painting and final touches

Everything Included in One Package

Kitchen installations often go wrong when several separate tradespeople are booked independently and the sequence falls apart. We avoid that by coordinating every trade in-house as part of one package. The following are all included in a Crownhill kitchen installation rather than being sold as separate services:

• Plumbing — new supply and waste runs, moving the sink, dishwasher and washing machine connections, relocating radiators
• Electrics — new ring mains, cooker circuits, under-cabinet and ceiling lighting, extractor wiring, and extra sockets where you need them
• Plastering — patching and skimming after first fix so the walls are flat before tiling and painting
• Joinery — unit fitting, worktop installation, pelmets and cornices, boxing in, and any bespoke carpentry
• Tiling — splashbacks, feature walls and floor tiles
• Flooring — tiled, vinyl, laminate or engineered wood floors, with underfloor heating as an option
• Decorating — preparation and painting of walls, ceilings and woodwork to finish the room

Because we coordinate every trade ourselves, there is no waiting around for a separate electrician or plasterer to turn up, and no argument about whose responsibility a problem is. Everything is our responsibility until you are happy with it.

Supply and Fit, or Fit Only

We are happy to work either way. Many clients choose their kitchen from a showroom or an online supplier and ask us to install it — we will check the delivery against the plan, flag anything missing before work starts, and fit it exactly as designed. Others prefer us to supply the kitchen as part of the package so that everything comes under one quote and one warranty. Whichever route you choose, we will advise on the layout before you order so that appliance sizes, unit runs and service positions all work in the real room rather than only on paper.

Structural Changes and Open-Plan Layouts

A kitchen renovation is often the moment to open up the ground floor. Removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room, or creating a wide opening into a living space, transforms how a house feels without adding a single square metre. This kind of structural work needs a steel beam and Building Regulations approval, and as builders rather than a kitchen-only fitting company we handle the calculations, the steel installation and the inspections as part of the same project.

Living Through the Work

Most of our kitchen installations happen in occupied homes. We agree the sequence with you in advance so you know exactly when the water and power will be off, set up a temporary washing-up point where we can, keep the working area sealed from the rest of the house, and clear up at the end of every day. A straightforward kitchen replacement typically takes two to three weeks; a full renovation with structural work and new services takes longer, and we will give you a realistic programme before we start.
